Lo Sgroppino Italiano

The origins of Sgroppino are originated in the Veneto region, North east of Italy, where the word “sgropin” refer to the classic sorbet. The presence of sorbet in Venice can be traced back to the Byzantine period (sixth century AD.), But it is in the course of the following centuries, the period of the spice trade, that a recipe for Sgroppino was created and It was very close to that present: ice cream, lemon juice, vodka (and in some cases even a tip of prosecco), and in some variants, aromatic spices such as, for example, cinnamon.

But the certain use of the recipe dates back to 1528, where the aristocrats Sgroppino was served on the boards of the city of Venice as an interlude between the different refined dishes, as well as to break the taste of the dishes just consumed and prepare your palate to taste new courses such a switch from a sea food dish and meat.
And today … the same purpose, this sublime dessert is served at dinners, parties and banquets and with many different variants : with limoncello or dash of grenadine still one of the most popular drink in Italy.
