The 5 Best Places To Drink In New Orleans

There are a lot of bars in New Orleans. Honestly, the city itself could be considered a bar. Finding the good ones, however, requires filtering through a lot of places you wouldn’t ever visit, unless you’re on your second cousin’s bachelor party or searching for the seventh bar of the night. There is a lot to consider in addition to location, atmosphere, price, volume level, and crowd, but just like you, we prefer to drink at good places, which is why this list has been compiled. We’ve got you covered if you need something far away from Bourbon Street three hours later

Sazerac Bar

Since opening in the 1930s, the Sazerac Bar in the Roosevelt Hotel has barely changed. Although they don’t make the namesake drink here, they make great cocktails, and the bar feels like it’s seen a lot, partly because of a bullet hole in the wall from an attempt gone wrong. Everyone from local politicians to bachelorette parties frequents this spot, and it’s a great place to start a night before hitting Bourbon Street.

It’s hard to tell if Cane & Table is a restaurant with great drinks, or a fancy cocktail bar with surprisingly good food. No matter how you slice it, it’s one of our favorite spots in the French Quarter. We love their big back courtyard, perfect for escaping the chaos of Bourbon Street. They serve great small plates and entrees when you get hungry, as well as one of the city’s most diverse cocktail menus. If you need a place for a big group or a place for a date, Cane & Table has it all.

Located inside the Hotel Monteleone, this bar has been converted into a moving carousel. It’s also a little gimmicky. However, you can still grab a drink there. At all hours of the day, you’ll find a mix of tourists draped in beads and hotel guests pre and post-gaming weddings, all of whom are enamored with the bar that spins slowly enough to barely notice until you’re actually seated on one of the stools.

Cure Nola

Cure comes from the acclaimed and award-winning CureCo Hospitality Group. Cure, which opened on Freret St. in 2009, is credited with pioneering the craft cocktail movement in New Orleans and revitalizing the neighborhood. Cure has been a New Orleans mainstay for over a decade and continues to serve well-executed food and drinks.

As one of the “Best Cocktail Spots” in the U.S., Cure’s cocktails have been hailed as some of New Orleans’ best. In 2018, Cure received the James Beard Foundation’s award for “Outstanding Bar Program.”

Four Seasons Hotel New Orleans

The city’s World Trade Center has been a derelict commercial building for years, so the refurbishment by Four Seasons is welcome. A vast lobby greets guests as soon as they enter the building off Canal Street. Intimacy is created by sound-baffling wooden frames, but a sense of place is conveyed by locally sourced art. Chandelier Bar serves as a statement of intent by the hotel to honor the city’s commitment to revelry where most five-star hotels would have elaborate floral displays.
